At Steel Goat Marketplace, we’re thrilled to showcase the talents of our diverse group of vendors, each bringing their unique flair to the marketplace. Today, we sit down with the creative force behind Dapper Fox Florals & Antiques, a vendor who blends a love for florals and vintage collectibles into something truly special. Let’s explore the story, inspiration, and artistry that defines this one-of-a-kind shop.

What inspired you to start creating/selling your craft?

As someone deeply rooted in the garden field and a Penn State Master Gardener, I’ve always had an appreciation for how flowers and plants grow throughout the seasons. This connection to nature inspired me to create florals that mirror the beauty of each season. On the other hand, my passion for collecting vintage glassware and dishware led me to share these treasures with others. My collection grew so much that I had to make room at home, and I found joy in knowing that each piece I sell will be loved and enjoyed by someone else.

Describe your creative process. How do you get into the ‘zone’ when working on your craft?

When I’m creating florals, I draw inspiration from what’s blooming around me at the moment. I pay attention to the colors, textures, and forms of the plants in my environment. For custom orders, I take time to talk with the customer, understanding the mood or feeling they want their floral arrangement to convey. This connection with nature and with my customers helps me get into the ‘zone’ and create something truly special.

Do you have a favorite or most meaningful piece that you’ve created? What’s the story behind it?

Creating cemetery pieces is always a deeply moving experience for me. Each piece is a tribute to the love and memory of someone special, and I strive to capture that emotion in my work. One piece that stands out was a cemetery bouquet vase I made for Halloween. It was a first for me, and the customer wanted something fun and spirited, with elements like jack-o’-lanterns and skeletons. The story behind it was so touching—Halloween was his mother’s favorite holiday, and he wanted to honor her memory in a way that reflected her personality. When he picked up the vase dressed in a Freddie Krueger costume, we both had a good laugh, and it was clear how much joy the piece brought him.

Who or what influences your work the most?

The love of nature is a constant influence in my floral designs, while the joy of entertaining with family and friends inspires my selection of vintage dishware and glassware. Both aspects of my work reflect a deep appreciation for beauty, whether it’s found in nature or in the cherished memories created around a table.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a vendor for Steel Goat Marketplace?

The most rewarding part is seeing the wonder on customers’ faces as they explore the marketplace. Steel Goat is a treasure trove of unique items, and I love being part of a community that celebrates creativity. It’s especially gratifying when customers tell me that Steel Goat is their “happy place,” and they’re just taking their time to find that perfect “must-have” item. Being able to interact with them and see how much joy our offerings bring is truly fulfilling.

Outside of your craft, what are your other passions or hobbies?

Gardening at home is a major passion of mine, as well as cooking for friends. I love setting a fun table with beautiful vintage pieces, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere where everyone can relax and enjoy themselves.

If your craft had a superpower, what would it be and why?

The superpower would be the ability to make everything bright and cheery. Whether it’s through vibrant floral arrangements or charming vintage glassware, I want my creations to bring a smile to people’s faces.

What’s the weirdest request or custom order you’ve ever received?

The Halloween Cemetery Bouquet Vase definitely stands out as the most unusual request. It was a challenge to balance the spooky elements with the sentiment of a memorial piece, but it turned out to be one of the most rewarding projects I’ve done.

If your craft were an animal, what animal would it be and why?

A cat, for sure! Cats are adaptable, independent, and love to find a comfy spot—qualities that resonate with both my creative process and the charm of my vintage finds.

Share a memorable moment with a customer that made you smile or laugh.

The Halloween vase story is unforgettable. My customer showing up in a Freddie Krueger costume in the middle of the week, just to pick up his order, was a moment that had us both laughing. It was such a fun and unexpected way to bring a little extra joy to the experience.
